In a remarkable display of loyalty and gratitude, the 2005 Alumni Set of the Mass Communication Department, The Polytechnic Ibadan, has commissioned a newly renovated departmental building and the ASCOM Studio. The commissioning ceremony, held on November 7, 2025, symbolized a renewed commitment to the department’s growth and the advancement of media education.

The event brought together top officials, alumni, lecturers, and students, with the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, leading the institution’s management team. Former Alumni President Mr. Bukola Adio warmly welcomed guests and stakeholders, followed by an opening prayer by Mukadam and an inspiring industry speech delivered by Mr. Idris.

Delivering his goodwill message, the Guest of Honour, Mr. Adeyemi Akande, urged graduates to continually give back to their alma mater. He recalled his 27-year friendship with Mr. Adio, describing their journey as one “fueled by faith and vision despite limited resources.”
Mr. Adio introduced key members of The Polytechnic’s management, including the Registrar, Mr. Joseph Adewunmi Ogunjumi; former Head of the Mass Communication Department, Rev. Jonathan Adejumobi; current Head of Department, Dr. Olusoji Olatunji; Dr. Oyewole, Head of Public Administration; and Dr. Ajibola, Head of Office Technology Management.

In his address, Dr. Olatunji the current Head of the Department, commended the 2005 alumni for their generosity and vision, emphasizing that the newly renovated ASCOM Studio would enhance practical training for aspiring journalists and broadcasters. In his words, “Do not look at what your country [the department] will do for you, but what you will do for your country [your department],” he stated. He urged staff and students to focus on service, saying they should not think about what the department could do for them, but rather what they could do for the department.
He also introduced Mrs. Bolatito Joseph, General Manager of Raiz FM 101.9, who graced the event.
Former Head of Department, Rev. Adejumobi, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the 2005 alumni and his wife through a thanksgiving speech and song.
In his remarks, Dr. Lasisi, the Acting Rector, praised the Mass Communication Department as a model for other departments, noting with pride that he once lectured at the institution.

The ceremony concluded with the official commissioning of the renovated facilities a milestone that reinforces the spirit of excellence, unity, and progress within The Polytechnic Ibadan’s Mass Communication Department.
