The Polytechnic, Ibadan is buzzing once again and this time, it’s not from lectures or tests, but from anticipation of democracy in action. The 2025/2026 Students’ Union Executives and Students’ Representatives Council (SRC) Election is officially around the corner, and the campus air is thick with excitement, ambition, and the rhythm of change.
The long-awaited election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 25th October 2025, through an e-voting system a modern, digital process that reflects The Polytechnic’s growing embrace of innovation and transparency.As it’s the institution’s custom during election periods, academic and commercial activities across the campus will be temporarily halted to ensure a smooth, fair, and peaceful process.
The entire community traditionally observes this pause as a mark of civic participation, allowing students to focus solely on exercising their franchise without distractions.For once, the usually noisy, movement filled campus will stand still not out of fear, but out of civic duty. No lectures, no loitering about, no CBT centre operations, and absolutely no car or bike movement just the calm of purpose and the collective anticipation of history in the making. As word spread, excitement soared.
The manifesto ground, held on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, was a spectacle cheers, arguments, promises, and applause all blended into one captivating symphony. The Press Council was in full force, microphones raised and pens ready, asking the tough questions that define leadership. Candidates spoke with passion, conviction, and sometimes humor each striving to convince the students that their vision holds the key to a better Polytechnic.
The event was aired live on Reiz FM (101.9), giving the entire student body a chance to witness democracy in motion.Now, as the countdown to election day begins, the tension rises. Who will emerge victorious? Who will carry the voice of thousands into the Students’ Union chambers? And who will prove that leadership is not about title, but about service, vision, and courage? Saturday will tell.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan isn’t just holding an election it’s writing another chapter in its democratic story. From the quiet of the CBT centers to the total shutdown of movement across campus, one truth rings clear: this election isn’t just about votes it’s about values, unity, and the collective will of students who believe in progress.So come Saturday, October 25, 2025, when the campus stands still and the e-voting portals light up, history will once again be made by the students, for the students, and through the power of their votes.
