The Asiwaju Chapter of Junior Chamber International Nigeria at The Polytechnic, Ibadan organized a 3-day health awareness program. The project which was done in tandem with the JCI creed that says service to humanity is the best work of life, started on November 29th and ended on the 1st of December, 2023.
The health project which was tagged ‘Asiwaju Nuturing hearts’ project was the fulfillment of one of the substantial projects of the Local Organization Year.
The Day 1 of the project was organized to create awareness amongst young people on the paramount issues relating to their health. Students from public and private secondary schools in Ibadan were present as beneficiaries of the initiatives.
Some schools that were in attendance include The Polytechnic High School, Ikolaba High School, Divine Lifters School, amongst others.
The aspect of the event kicked off as Mrs. Katherine Olaitan Adedeji, the invited guest, also a medical practitioner started her insightful session by stating that “Healthy Lifestyle is a choice”
She emphasized the fact that everyone has to choose to live healthily, enlightened the audience about taking their health seriously.
Also, the day 1 of the project also featured a skill acquisition session where students had the opportunity to learn vocational skills such as soap making, izal amongst others.
The day 2 of JCIN TPI chapter Asiwaju nurturing hearts project featured free medical checkups at the Total Grace Filling station, Mokola, Ibadan.
The day 2 of the project featured free medical checkups, started with a rally led by the Local Organization President, Akande Moses Olamide from the school Main Gate to Total Grace filling station, Mokola.
The event was graced by Hon. Akinsete Olakunle the Special Adviser to governor Seyi Makinde on Housing and Urban Development, who disclosed that the initiatives of the project was so amazing and there by declaring his interest in joining JCI. Also in attendance were past leaders of JCIN The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The day 2 medical checks program was segmented, ranging from the general body check up, blood test, eye test and BP test. People also check their weight and sugar level. More importantly, the health program featured a counseling segment, where over 60 passers by at Mokola were beneficiaries.
Day 3 of JCIN The Polytechnic, Ibadan Asiwaju Nurturing Hearts project tagged HIV/ AIDS awareness in commemoration of the World AIDS Day, featured screening exercise at ICAN Hall, The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The program had in attendance the Rotaract Club of University College Hospital and officials of The Blood Drive Network who did check ups for over 50 attendees as they were tested on HIV, Herpathesis B and Malaria. Participants also receive pairs of condom as they were strictly warned to adhere to protection during the times that they are sexually active.
During the event, Miss Sarah from Rotaract Club, UCH engaged participants in highlighting certain crucial topics relating to STIs, stressing that the best thing to do is abstainance. The session also featured sex education and discussion on STI prevention, with free HIV test, free malaria test, as well as free Hepatitis B test.
Wrapping up the program of the day, the Local Organization President, Akande Moses Olamide gave his vote of thanks, appreciating everyone that has contributed to the success of the project. He appreciated the 89 health care foundation, The Blood Drive Network, Morningstar Enrichment Foundation, and the Broadnet Concept.
