Discipline and purpose took center stage on Friday, Jan. 8, 2026, as The Polytechnic, Ibadan formally inducted newly admitted students during its matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session at the institution’s 1,000-capacity auditorium, charging them to pursue academic excellence through good conduct and focus.
Speaking at the institution’s main auditorium, the Acting Rector, Dr. Abideen Lasisi, charged the fresh students to approach their academic journey with focus, perseverance, and good character, stressing that success in the institution is anchored on responsible conduct.
“The journey starts here. You must avoid all forms of negative attitudes that can destroy your future,” Dr. Lasisi warned, adding that any involvement in unlawful activities or associations would attract disciplinary sanctions, including suspension.
The ceremony was attended by principal officers and top management staff of the institution, including the Deputy Rector, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, Director of Works and Services, Director of Audit, Director of the Central Office, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Consultancy (CEC), the Admission Officer, Deans of all faculties, and the Chairman of Deans, alongside lecturers, parents, guardians, and members of the press.
As part of the ceremony, Deans of the various faculties presented their Higher National Diploma (HND) and Ordinary National Diploma (OND) students for formal admission into the institution. The presentation commenced with the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, followed by the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Studies, Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Social Management and Humanities.
The Registrar subsequently administered the matriculation oath, which was collectively taken by the fresh students, officially inducting them into the academic community of The Polytechnic Ibadan.
Commending the students for their orderly conduct during the ceremony, Dr. Lasisi described their response as a reflection of good character and assured them of the institution’s commitment to nurturing their academic and personal development.
“Your conduct today shows that you are good students, and the institution will support you to achieve your full potential,” he said.
The Acting Rector also advised the students to complete all registration processes through the appropriate offices, cautioning them against falling victim to extortion by unauthorized individuals.
Addressing parents and guardians, Dr. Lasisi expressed appreciation for their presence and appealed to them to play active roles in guiding and monitoring their wards throughout their academic stay.
“I am happy that some parents and guardians are here to witness this important day. I appeal to you to keep tabs on your wards,” he said.
He further assured the students of the availability of adequate facilities and learning equipment to support quality education, while acknowledging the sustained financial and infrastructural support of the Oyo State Government.
“On behalf of the Governing Council, Board of Services, management staff, and students, I appreciate the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for his continuous support to the institution,” Dr. Lasisi stated.
Describing The Polytechnic, Ibadan as one of the most reputable institutions in the country, the Acting Rector formally declared the matriculation ceremony closed and welcomed the fresh students into the institution’s academic community.
