A Confused Country

Nigerians have begun to ask series of questions in terms of political instability, economic degradation, social menace as well as violence and religious crisis in the state. Questions like; where are we heading to in Nigeria? Where is the passion for the masses? What is our story today? Should we continue to risk our lives before we put a stop to insecurity and spate of political killing? – have been the daily devotion of the poor masses alongside their hustles.

Several controversies have been generated as to when Democracy has been bargained for half bag of lies, where our votes are counted only to be accredited to selfish minded high profile individuals. The eleven letter word “SELFISHNESS” in Nigeria has been a major criterion for political prowess as it is growing day by day eating deep into our socio-economic and political fabrics. The so called lazy Nigerians are seen on the street till the dawn of each day struggling earnestly to make a living and to attain the economic inflation of the policy makers, ironically referred to as the ‘saviours’ of the masses.

Selfishness, greediness, corruption, bribe, favouritism, lies, mismanagement of fund, as well as nepotism have been added to the Nigerian socio-cultural values which runs in the blood of every individual at virtually in all areas of the state that even our toddlers can pronounce corruption or even know what money is. The Nigerian youths are no more trained to be compassionate and sympathetic as a result of the disheartening situations that surrounds them in the society.

Trust, justice and freedom in the Nigeria-state are crippled and deformed beyond repairs. We live in a country where education is removed from schools- schools are short down because lecturers are not paid well and students are extorted through hike tuition fees, health care is removed from our hospital- the poor masses can’t get treatment because of lack of necessary medical equipment and the influential ones can travel overseas for headache check-up, morals and sanity are removed from our politics and policies.

The appalling situation has a slang called ‘suffering and the smiling’. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, our human skills that are inborn are rendered useless to pursue political credibility, corruption has gained its ground, injustice has taken its full course, no voice is heard for fundamental human rights except that we shout in the corners of our rooms with shackles in our hands, youths are handicapped with money and allowed to be used as political thugs, the rural areas and occupants are neglected but are useful only during election campaigns, the heart of joy for Nigeria’s independence in the 1960s has been smashed and shattered- we are independently enslaved.

Nigeria over the years has been referred to as the ‘Giant of Africa’, where then is our economic wealth? Where are our riches in production and distribution of goods and services? It is time to keep shouting for justice, to stop keeping our fingers crossed, to fight for our Father’s land, we can and must refuse to be used for political prowess- to be used against us.
