The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Friday, October 31, 2025, officially inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union Executive (SUE) and Students’Representative Council (SRC) for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the beginning of a new phase in student leadership after a peaceful and transparent election.
The event took place at North Campus Assembly Hall and marked the start of a new term in student leadership. The preceding election was conducted peacefully and transparently.
Alhaji Soladoye, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, introduced the dignitaries present. They included the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi; the Deputy Registrar, in absentia, who was represented by the Chairman, Committee of Deans; the Registrar, Mr. J.A. Ogunjimi; Mrs. Akintunde, Senior Deputy Registrar; the Bursar, Mr. D.O. Taiwo; the Acting Librarian; the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mr. Akiwunmi Makinde; Deans of various faculties; the Director, Career Centre, Dr. Muyiwa Ojo; the Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. Olajide; and the Director, Skills Development Centre, Engr. Abolaji.
The newly elected SRC members and Student Union Executives took their oaths of office, administered by Mrs. Akintunde, Senior Deputy Registrar, amidst cheers from students and staff who gathered to witness the symbolic transition of power.
The outgoing Students’ Union President, Comrade Oladipupo Olamide, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management, staff, and students for their support throughout his tenure.
“I came into office as a boy who had never held any leadership position, but the experience has shaped me,” he said. “Leadership is not about knowing everything, but about knowing those who can show you the right way. The success of our administration was built on love, unity, and courage.”
He also appreciated the students for their active participation during the protest to the Oyo State Secretariat concerning the proposed change of the institution’s name by Governor Seyi Makinde, describing it as a defining moment of solidarity.
The newly sworn-in President, Comrade Fagbemi Nurudeen Ojo, in his acceptance speech, pledged to uphold integrity, transparency, and dedication to students’ welfare.
“I stand here with humility and pride, grateful for the opportunity to serve,” he said. “Together, we possess the strength to overcome challenges and move our great institution forward.”
The Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, in his goodwill message, applauded the newly sworn-in executives and advised them to uphold integrity and always put the students first.
“Students’ unionism is not about intimidation or self-interest,” he said. “It is about service, dialogue, and defending the constitution of your union. Always remember that leadership is a privilege, not a right.”
He further assured the student leaders of management’s continued support while encouraging them to follow due process in addressing concerns affecting the student body.
The event featured a lively atmosphere, musical interludes by students from the Music Technology Department, and moments of celebration.

The event ended on a joyous note with a collective chant of the national anthem and cheers from students, marking the beginning of another era of student leadership at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
