On the 6th of March, 2024, The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, held the swearing in ceremony for the Students’ Union Executives for 2023/2024 Academic session at the Assembly Hall, North Campus of the Institution.
The programme commenced with the introduction of The Rector; Prof. (Engr.) Kazeem A. Adebiyi, who was duly represented by the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Olaide Salawu, the Registrar, Mrs. Modupe Theresa Fawale, Deputy Registrar Mrs. Akintunde, Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Makinde John and all Deans from different Faculties on campus.

In the absence of the Rector, Mrs. Olaide Salawu, the Deputy Rector, declared the swearing in ceremony open.
The Registrar, Mrs. Modupe Theresa Fawale led the Students Union Executives in taking the oath of office and afterwards admonished that they stay true to the oath.
In the speech of the Immediate Past President of the SUG, Comr. Oloyede Okikiola Joshua, he appreciated the Rector for his fatherly support, the Dean of Students Affairs and the entire management of Students Affairs for making his tenure a successful one. He futher encouraged his successor, Comr. Oyekan Tobiloba Emmanuel, to make sure he does his best, and to support the management in promoting and moving The Polythecnic, Ibadan to greater heights.

Comr. Oyekan Tobiloba Emmanuel, the newly sworn-in SUG President, in his speech, appreciated students from all departments in the institution for voting him and having confidence in him to be their representative. He pledged to make things better and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. He stated that his administration will work colaboratively with the students to make the academic session a successful one.

In the Rector’s speech taken by Mrs. Salawu Olaide, the Deputy Rector, she saluted the courage of not only the winners, but also other contestants of the SUG offices, who were gallant in defeat. Also she highligted the fact that Student Unionism is a link between students populace and the authority of the institution. She enjoined that students should gird their loins and join the management in moving The Polythecnic, Ibadan to the next level. She encouraged the newly sworn-in Students’ Union Executives and Students’ Representatives that; with the few months they have in office, they can do much more from where their predecessors stopped.

The SUG President, Comr. Oyekan Tobiloba Emmanuel gave the Vote of Thanks, after which the Deputy Rector, Mrs Salawu declared the ceremony closed.
